Hanauma

Hanauma Bay

Hanauma

So I heard about this bay called Hanauma which is located south of Honolulu. Like most of Hawaii, the bay is actually an old volcanic cinder cone which had eroded over time causing the pacific ocean to flood in. It is now an amazing sea-life sanctuary with coral reefs and an abundance of fish to make it a top notch snorkeling location. Due to the popularity, they limit the number people allowed down onto the beach – so word to the wise – GET THERE EARLY. This picture was taken on the way down and is a 3 part panoramic.  Canon 5D MkIII – 24-70mm.

Sunset at Sunset Beach

Sunset Beach

Sunset Beach

The last shot of the day. Traveled up to the north shore and made a point of getting to sunset beach for at least one sunset shot. Cliche? Hey at least I can say now that i’ve done it! The ocean is quite calm up there in summer; I’d love to see the swell in winter! None the less, found a place to watch the light fade over the horizon. Here’s my final capture of the night. Oblivion

Another from the Big Island on Hawaii. I was driving back on the Saddle Rd from the Volcano National Park and we came across a lava field. It appeared the road we were on had been carved out of the flow which gave an incredible contrast between mother nature and man. Intrigued by the scale of the lava, we pulled over to investigate. Walking around I noticed this lone tree springing up out of the rock. In the distance, one of the many cinder cone formations from the dormant volcano Mauna Kea. With camera in hand, this is the shot I captured. Canon 5D MkIII – 24-70mm.

Breathless

Ventured up to the top of this 13,803 ft dormant volcano this night where there is 40% less oxygen and sub zero temperatures. Decided a bus would be the smart way up. Mauna Kea means white mountain in Hawaiian and it’s covered in snow in the winter months. This volcano is actually 33,100 ft when measured from the base at the bottom of the ocean – that’s twice as big as Everest! It is one of the best places in the world for astronomical observation and has 13 massive telescopes at it’s peak.

Sunset proved breathtaking as I watched the sun disappear under the cloud layer which we were above – a truly awesome experience

Old Princess

Probably one of the most photographed spots in melbourne by budding photographers – me included! Ventured down to Princess Pier in Port Melbourne in late April to play around with my new toy for the year – the 5D mark iii. This is one of the shots I took on the night.

Québec Lights

Quebec Lights

We wanted a white Christmas in 2012… so headed to Québec City, Canada. We got what we asked for! We had to try twice to fly in there; with the first attempt getting close but being turned around at the last minute due to severe snow storms. About 3 days of traveling wasn’t getting our holiday off to a great start! Eventually got in there on a turbo prop plane (another story all together) and were greeted with about a meter or more of snow that had fallen from the storm over the last few days. While we were there, I dont think it snowed again; had perfect days. This shot was taken towards the end of the trip of a small little street called Rue du Petit Champlain, Québec. It was lit up so nicely at night. Canon 7D 24-70 mm
